NEWS 1: MEETING OUR
REGIONAL MEMBERS
In light of the unprecedented changes currently effecting
our industry, the ASCM's management committee resolved
to reintroduce regional meetings in a bid to facilitate
healthy discussion among members, with regards to the
changes in our industry.
Our first regional meeting was in Penang in February,
and we have since also addressed members from the central
region recently. By enlarge we have found these meetings
to be very fruitful towards forming a "brokers view".
Among the topics discussed at previous meetings include
the rampant rate cutting activities among members, the
consolidation process as well as other matters raised
by members.
Another topic which has been discussed is ASCM's E-broking
project, with has so far received a favourable response
from members. Basically, the aim of this project is to
provide members a cheaper alternative to facilitate internet
broking.
NEWS 2: KLSE's
4TH ANNUAL DIALOGUE 2001
On the 6th of June, the
Bursa Malaysia hosted ASCM's committee members
at the fourth annual dialogue. Similar with previous dialogues,
we forwarded KLSE a list of issues to be discussed, complied
from members companies.
As usual, discussions will be frank and candid, in a bid
to find solutions to various questions and concerns. It
is hoped that armed with the Association's feedback and
comments, the KLSE can proceed to formulate various plans
and changes that will help strike a balance between the
need for more stringent requirements and practical business
considerations.
During his opening remark Datuk Azlan Hashim admitted
that it would be difficult to get a perfect balance of
views and as such each party to the dialogue must ensure
that both parties must work towards the advancement and
the development of the local capital market. Once this
basis is use by both parties it would be easier to come
to an amicable solution to the issues surrounding the
market and its intermediaries.
Datuk Mohaiyani in her opening speech, suggested that
for the dialogue to more effective it should be open to
all member companies as opposed to only the committee
members of the ASCM. She also suggested that a return
to the good old days where KLSE conducted regional meetings
could be re-adopted. This suggestion was welcomed by Datuk
Azlan, who then went on to highlight that such meetings
could bring all parties closer by using a direct approach.
